Blueberry Boy Bait – Tasty and Cheap!

Today, I did my Gram proud!

I had a package of blueberries laying around in the fridge just itching to go bad and get thrown out, so I dug out my Gram’s ole recipe for Blueberry Boy Bait! It has very simple ingredients and if you can pick up a cheap pint of blueberries at the market, this will make you one killer dessert (or breakfast) on the cheap!

You’ll need:

2 cups flour

2 eggs

1 heaping cup of blueberries

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup milk (I used 1%, but sort of wished I had at least 2%. If not, no biggie, it’ll still come out good.)

2 teaspoons of baking powder.

2/3 cup butter (softened.)

Mix flour, sugar, and butter together. Once mixed, take out 3/4 cup of the mixture from the bowl and put it to the side. Add all other ingredients to the bowl and blend. Grease a non stick 9×13 pan and add batter. Top batter with blueberries. Spread the remaining ingredients (that you put to the side) on top and bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. Enjoy!

Mail Call!

What was in your box today? Not much in the way of freebies for me, but I did get my package of Barbara’s cookies. These packages are A LOT bigger than I expected, and much more than we could eat at lunch. They are incredible delicious too(Liam and momma have already tapped into them)! ;)

DIY Hand Soap for .33 a Bottle

Ya’ll might laugh at me for this one, but I’m going to throw it out there anyway. I don’t think I am being cheap here, but I’ll let you decide. This new series is called “Stretch Your Dollar”, how far can you make an item for $1 go? Here’s how I get a $.99 bottle of Dawn with Olay Hand Renewel dish soap into 3 bottles of foaming hand soap.

First you’ll need a good hand soap foam dispenser pump ( the best one I have found so far is Dial Complete foaming hand soap). Once you have blown through that soap, pick up a small bottle of Dawn with Olay Hand Renewel. These smaller bottles sell for .99 on sale at CVS and Walgreens. Every now and then you can find a coupon for them too!

Visually divide that bottle into thirds and squeeze out 1/3 of the Dawn into your foaming hand pump. Slowly fill the rest of the container with water. Gently shake it and swish it around. It’ll take a few pumps to get it going and get a nice foamy consistency to come out but once it does you will love it! This stuff leaves my hands so soft, and at .33 a bottle, it is well worth it!

What do you think? Am I cheap or am I just stretching my buck? Or both?

How I Save $1,456 a Year

How much would you save if you brown bagged your lunch everyday? $20 a week? $50? More? Of course it’s always fun to eat out or grab something quick when you are hungry, but with a few extra minutes of planning both at the grocery store and at home, you could save a ton! I calculated my savings on this nifty “Brown Bag Calculator” and by eating out at lunch only 1 time per week instead of 5, I can save $1,456 per year – enough for a nice vacation somewhere! Food from home never tasted so good! How much could you save?
